A Happy 2011 To All Supporters Of Scarborough Athletic FC

Seadog Blog would like to wish all connections of Scarborough Athletic FC all the best for 2011.

Those good wishes extend to all readers of course.

For The Seadogs let us hope that the new year brings silverwear in the shape of the NCEL League & Presidents Cup.

Also a surge up the 2010/11 table would be nice followed by a winning start to the 2011/12 campaign.

Seadog Blog also hopes that 2011 continues to bring further positive news with regard to the club getting a new ground in our home town - I guess that is the most important issue that the club faces just now.

Could Scarborough Athletic FC Be Playing A NCEL Game This Monday?

You never know!

It was as far back as the 2nd November since Scarborough Athletic FC last played an away NCEL fixture.

That 2-2 draw at the South Yorkshire stronghold of Parkgate FC seems a mini-lifetime ago.

If the thaw continues then the first Monday of 2011 will see The Seadogs visit the "Brewers" of Tadcaster Albion FC at their Ings Lane HQ (in the shadow of the John Smiths brewery - which makes for good pint in the clubhouse).

Given the proximity of the Taddy ground to the adjacent River Wharf then a thaw could also raise the spectre of a waterlogged pitch but, hey-ho, fingers crossed.

Should the game go ahead then kick-off will be at 1pm.

The Big Freeze Continues For Scarborough Athletic FC

Since Tuesday 23rd November 2010 Scarborough Athletic FC have managed to partake in just 90 minutes worth of Association Football!

That solitary bit of December action came on the 14th and resulted in a 0-3 FA Vase reverse at home to Spennymoor Town meaning that the Wembley Way was blocked off to Seadogs until next season at least.

Since the cold snap arrived Scarborough Athletic have suffered no less than 10 postponements with games against Thackley, Selby, Maltby, Nostell, Winterton, Arnold, Tadcaster, Lincoln MR, Tadcaster (again) and most recently Bridlington all running afoul of Jack Frost's icy grip with his wintery attendants the snow & burst water pipes.

With the "halfway" stage of the 2010/2011 season rapidly approaching The Seadogs have completed a meagre 13 NCEL league matches.

It is not just Boro that are suffering of course and the NCEL league fixture compiler must be ripping his hair out as he runs out of calendar!

Here is the front cover of one of those postponed games, v Tadcaster which should have gone ahead on Saturday 18th December but succumbed to the Arctic

A Possible FA Vase Trip Down South For Scarborough Athletic FC

The 4th Round of the FA Vase has been made and once again the Seadogs face the possibility of a long January 22nd trip down south to compete.

It is not quite as long as the Devon trip to Bideford at the same stage two seasons ago, but not far short!

The potential journeys this time around are to either a: Bristol-based Cadbury Heath FC of the Toolstation Western League Division One - they are bedfellows of Merthyr Town FC who we played (and beat!) in the Supporters Direct Shield (at neutral Telford) in pre-season. Merthyr sit atop that division at the moment with Cadbury Heath in 5th

& b: Reading Town of err Reading! The Berkshiremen are in 12th place in the Hellenic League Premier - at the same level and almost in the same place as Boro are.

But all this is getting ahead of ourselves somewhat. Before the compasses can be set on a southerly bearing we have a very tough nut to crack in the shape of our 3rd round opponents Spennymoor Town.

The Moors are the reigning champions of the Northern League and currently sit handy in 2nd place with games in hand. Strangely their away record this season is superior to their home record (although both are impressive enough) and they hope to visit Queensgate this Saturday (11th) to vie with the Seadogs for that 4th Round berth.

The bookies like Spennymoor as well - they are joint 4/1 joint favourites to lift the Vase at Wembley.

There is another stumbling block in the form of the snow chaos that has hit the country - few places worse than the North East Coast - and our Spennymoor tie has already fallen victim to this once and, unless we have a big thaw, this Saturday's game must have a bit of a question mark over it. Let us hope it gets played!
