And Yet More Postponement Misery For Scarborough Athletic FC

.....would you Adam & Eve it. Today's NCEL clash at Dinnington was called off due to a frozen pitch at the Phoenix Park home of "Dinno".

Seadog Blog has lost count of the games called off this season, It really has been a most fractured campaign - I thought 2009/10 was bad enough.

Luckily the notification went out in good time so there were no wasted journeys this time.

Oh for a season of settled weather.

Goal-den Pledge Paying Off For Scarborough Athletic FC & St Catherine’s Hospice

The Goal-den Pledge is a scheme (which is part of a shirt sponsorship deal with Hansons Cooling Services) whereby supporters contribute 25p (or more) for each goal scored by Scarborough Athletic FC during the course of the 2010-11 season.

Once all the money is in, the amount raised is split 50-50 between Scarborough Athletic FC and St Catherine’s Hospice – thus benefitting the club & a local good cause.

The first instalment of pledges has been called in & those that pledged 25p will be making a payment of £15.50p at this point.

This is because Boro have scored 62 goals in all competitions up to Saturday January 15th.

At present the running total is £806 and the total accumulated donation equates to £13 for each Seadog goal scored.

Well done to all who partake in this doubly beneficial fundraiser. The Seadogs are a very generous bunch - that much is certain.

Let us hope the lads can net even more goals in the second part of the season and give a big boost the final tally.

Scarborough Athletic 1-0 Arnold Town - Three Points For Seadogs

Scarborough Athletic successfully ended their recent mini-blip on Saturday after beating Arnold Town by a solitary goal.

Three much needed points to boost morale and get the club moving up the table.

Ryan Blott was on the mark for Boro to notch his 98th goal for the club.

Despite the freezing weather and recent lack of form, nearly 400 Seadogs still attended - this club is well served by its loyal band of supporters who think nothing of a 38-mile-round-trip to watch 'home' games.

Our club may be playing in exile, but the Boro spirit will help bring it home one day.

Seadog Blog is proud to be numbered amongst those who show such dedication.

All the best to Scarborough Athletic FC Chairman Richard Adamson who, along with club President John Fawcett & fan Mike Price, was involved in a nasty sounding traffic accident in Leeds just after the Farsley AFC game.

NCEL League & President Cup Draws

Seadog Blog has reluctantly come to the conclusion that promotion is a "non-runner" this season & now considers the two NCEL cup competitions the only realistic chance of honours for Scarborough Athletic FC.

The draw for the Presidents Cup Semi-Final has seen the Seadogs drawn away yet again. Boro travel to either Farsley AFC (our league conquerors today) or NCEL1 outfit AFC Emley. You probably have to think it will be Farsley so at least we may have a chance of avenging their "double" over us this season - but you never know for sure in football & Emley may spring a surprise

This tie will be played on the 22nd March (if Farsley) or the 23rd March (if Emley)

The draw for the third round of the NCEL League Cup has been slightly kinder insofar as Boro have received a home draw. Again it is an "either/or" situation with the opponents - Selby Town (who we play on Tuesday in a league game BTW) or NCEL1 Bottesford Town. Once more you would assume the NCEL Premier team are favourites to progress to the Boro tie.

This game will be played on the 15th March.

COME ON BORO - Let's get some silverwear in the cabinet!

Farsley AFC 1-0 Scarborough Athletic

Apparently the Seadogs put in plenty of effort today on a boggy pitch but could make few inroads against a strong Farsley outfit that contain several players who played for the previous Farsley Celtic at Conference & Conference North level (in old money).

It means Boro have suffered another "double" defeat as the Leeds men triumphed 1-2 at Queensgate back in August.

Being realistic, It probably means Scarborough Athletic can forget about promotion for this season. Boro now need to win just about every game left and hope that 4 or 5 clubs at the top lose form big-style and I just cannot see that happening - can you?

Thackley FC 1-3 Scarborough Athletic - Presidents Cup Joy For Seadogs

After the calypso collapso against Hallam last Saturday all Seadogs were in search for a bit of a morale booster - and soon.

They got one & in the required timescale.

Boro travelled to Thackley to take the homesters on in the 2nd round of the NCEL Presidents Cup and duly raised spirits by triumphing 1-3.

Goals from Law, Medcalf & Blott gave The Seadogs a commanding lead but Thackley hit back to make it 1-3 and those knock-kneed types (like your humble blogger) afeared the worst. Oh we of little faith as Boro never looked like repeating the Hallam horrorshow.

The crowd was a humble 97 which must be one of the lowest competitive gatherings we have seen since formation. Nearly all Seadogs as well.

So into the semi-final of the Presidents cup we go. Scarborough Athletic have reached the final of this competition before and came a two-legged cropper against Nostell MW. There are 6 teams left in the hat so we await the draw with anticipation - Only Boro & Brid are through for sure just now.

A lot of fans see these intra-league cups as a bit of a needless distraction, but not Seadog Blog. I love 'em.

Scarborough Athletic FC 4 - 4 Hallam FC (4-0 Up & We ****** It Up)

Seadog Blog is still in a state of shock.

Last Saturday with just 20 minutes remaining Scarborough Athletic lead Hallam 4-0 and were in cruise control. Returnee Richard Medcalf had notched a hat-trick and all looked rosy in the Seadog world. It could have been 8-0 and no one would have batted an eyelid.

And then.................... Scarborough Athletic succumbed to the mother of all collapses, conceding goals in the 70th, 75th, 76th & 90th minutes to leave everybody in the ground absolutely gobsmacked.

A draw snatched from the jaws of victory. I still cannot believe it.

The Seadogs have a chance for a quick atonement tonight when they travel to Thackley FC to play for a semi-final berth in the NCEL Presidents Cup - Come on Boro!

Football At Long Last For Scarborough Athletic FC

It's been awhile (since the 20th November no less) but Scarborough Athletic FC will , at long last, get to play a Northern Counties East League Premier fixture this afternoon.

The game (at home to Hallam FC) has passed a pitch inspection this morning & kicks-off at 3pm.

Let's hope the lads are not too rusty after such a long break and that The Seadogs can get three points in the bag to start the long-awaited surge towards the top of the table.

More Postponment Misery For Scarborough Athletic FC

Seadog Blog's hope for a Scarborough Athletic NCEL game was thwarted yet again as the away fixture at Tadcaster Albion was postponed thanks to a frozen goalmouth area at Ings Lane.

The referee called the game off at 1pm (which was the supposed kick-off time).

Whilst the ref most likely did the right thing for player safety, there really ought to have been a pitch inspection earlier in the day to prevent the best part of 300 travelling Seadogs (including your humble correspondent) wasting their bank holiday morning and afternoon.

Taddy officials were quick to refund punters their admission money but the expense of the journey was money needlessly sent down the Swanee River.

Oh well, worse things happen at sea - we try again next Saturday with a home fixture against Hallam FC.

Here is yet another match day programme for a game that never was!

And a pic of the fans waiting in vain
